TL;DR: Avoid vague bullets, missing metrics, multi-page layouts, and irrelevant early-career detail.
Quick answer: If a bullet does not show impact or relevance to SaaS sales, cut or rewrite it.
Key facts
- Top killer
- Duty bullets without metrics
- Page count
- One page unless every line is high-impact
- Summary test
- Must mention SaaS domain + proof point
- Proof standard
- Quota %, ARR, or ranked performance
Experienced sellers often lose interviews on fixable resume errors—not lack of talent. Hiring managers spend seconds on the first screen; these mistakes signal poor communication or misalignment with SaaS hiring norms.
Mistake 1: Duty bullets instead of outcomes
"Responsible for territory management" tells nothing. Replace with quota %, ARR, logo count, or cycle reduction. Every bullet should pass the "so what?" test.
Mistake 2: Missing or buried metrics
If you hit quota, say the percentage and period. If you cannot disclose exact numbers, use ranges or indexed performance ("top 10% of 40-rep org"). Zero metrics on a sales resume raises immediate doubt.
Mistake 3: Two pages of low-signal history
Page two filled with internships and unrelated roles dilutes your story. Compress early career to titles and dates only, or remove entirely if you have 10+ years of sales experience.
Mistakes 4–7: Format and focus errors
- Generic summary that could apply to any industry
- Design-heavy templates that break ATS parsing
- Listing every CRM you ever touched instead of JD-relevant stack
- Typos in company names, product names, or your own title
Audit your resume line by line: if you cannot explain why a recruiter would care, cut it.
